Day One

• Arrive on your own and settle into your charming room with private bathroom, air conditioning, direct-dial telephone, minibar, satellite TV and hair dryer at Relais Osteria dell'Orcia. Located a five-minute walk from Bagno Vignoni, this 16th-century post house was totally renovated in 1999, resulting in only 16 romantic rooms furnished in authentic Tuscan style.
• After you have wandered among the picture-perfect medieval streets of the world's tiniest spa town, and taken way too many photos of its thermal-pool-town-square, relax by the hotel pool or fireplace until time to share a welcome cocktail with your hosts.
• Afterwards, you'll be served a rich Tuscan dinner accompanied by unlimited Tuscan wine. Your room is right around the corner, so eat and drink to your delight!

Day Two
Day Two

• Breakfast at Osteria dell'Orcia.
• This morning we suggest you drive just 10 minutes down the road to San Quirico d'Orcia, with its terracotta-paved streets, world-class Collegiata and almost complete lack of tourists. There are countless other little hilltop gems in the area, and you can linger as long as you like over lunch at one of them.
• In the afternoon, enjoy the panoramic drive to Montalcino, perhaps stopping at Sant'Antimo to hear the monks sing. In town, visit the castle and many wine shops, but don't be late for your special Brunello lesson and tasting!
• Back at the Relais another taste treat awaits you: a classic Tuscan aperitif complete with three local wines accompanied by salamis, sausages and other local meats. If you are still hungry, try the restaurant at the Relais; one of their menus is based on saffron!
• Overnight at Relais Osteria dell'Orcia

Day Three
Day Three

• Breakfast at Osteria dell'Orcia.
• After packing your bags, you'll drive less than half an hour to Pienza, where you can drop your bags at the Arca di Pienza B&B before setting off on foot to discover this very special town. Designed and built entirely from scratch in the 15th century, it was conceived to be the perfect Renaissance village by Pope Pius II, after whom it is named. Not only is its cathedral a masterpiece, but every single street is picture-perfect, and you'll definitely want to stop in all the little food shops, where you can have free tastings of cheese, salami and sausage. If you buy some, be sure to have it packed sotto vuoto (vacuum-sealed) so that Customs won't take it away from you.
• After lunch on your own in town, check into your double room, lovingly decorated by your hostess Gloria, then you're off across the Orcia Valley to a farm where you'll see how Tuscan sheep's cheese is made and enjoy a tasting of the various kinds.
• Dinner is on your own at one of Pienza's excellent restaurants, ranging from simple to five-star.
• Overnight at Arca di Pienza.

Day Four
Day Four

• Breakfast at Arca di Pienza.
• You have the whole day to explore the rest of this region. We suggest Montepulciano, a completely different kind of hill town than those you'll have seen by now. Larger and more monumental, it also has a couple of very special wineries that are built inside the hill, so that you travel through hand-carved tunnels and caves. Be sure to ask for a tasting of the Rosso di Montepulciano and their gold star vintage, Vino Nobile. After lunch on your own, drive a few minutes more to Cortona, the hill town so beautiful it inspired Frances Mayes to move there and write Under the Tuscan Sun.
• Dinner is on your own in Pienza, or perhaps at an agriturismo on the road back home.
• Overnight at Arca di Pienza.

Day Five

• Breakfast at Arca di Pienza.
• Check out and depart.
