Villa delle Olive

Some eight kilometers from Siracusa, in a secluded spot you would never find on your own, there is a hillside covered with a silent olive grove. Overhead is a stone outcrop, typical of the area, pockmarked with holes that attest to its porous nature. Ancient walls made hundreds of years ago out of that same stone run all through the gardens and groves below, alongside the gently sloping path that leads up to this hidden villa. Yes, you can also arrive by car, thanks to a private driveway that leads right to the gated parking court by the front door, but the most enchanting way is through the gardens. Once you are here, you will be rewarded with a splendid view of the sea, the bay, and the entire city of Siracusa topped by the cupola of its world-renowned cathedral.

Stepping inside the air-conditioned house, you enter a large living/dining room furnished with a fireplace, table for four, couches, chairs and TV. A counter separates this room from the kitchen, which features a full fridge, oven, 4 burners, toaster oven, American coffeemaker, and plenty of dishes and utensils. A door leads out to a large covered patio with table and chairs for 10 people. Annexed to this is another covered patio with a large barbecue grill. These are surrounded by the private and very quiet garden, which offers an outdoor shower for hot summer days.

Villa delle Olive's sleeping quarters are perfect for a family. On the other side of the living room, they include a master bedroom overlooking the garden, a twin bedroom overlooking the sea, and a large hall bathroom with stall shower and view. The house has cool tile floors and abundant closet space throughout.

This location is ideal for visiting the exquisite towns of Siracusa or Ragusa Ibla. One of Sicily's most beautiful beaches, Fontane Bianche, is less than 10 minutes' drive away, and on lazy days, you can just stroll through the garden and use the swimming pool or tennis court at the small agriturismo down the hill. Its owners are also happy to arrange horseback riding along a nearby river, and they also offer dinner on request during some months of the year.
