Santa Margherita Vistas

Many consider Santa Margherita to be the loveliest town on the Italian Riviera. Certainly it is one of Italy's most colorful towns, with its pastel-decorated façades and generous banks of cheerful flowers blooming year-round. All manner of marine crafts fill the expansive harbor laid out in front of this 120-year-old hotel. Thick green forests color the extremities of the bay, and behind are the foothills of the Alps, cascading almost to the water's edge. In between is this charming fishing village, which has been a world-famous resort for two hundred years. From Easter to October, you'll enjoy lively cafes, wonderful seafood restaurants, classy boutiques, and a constant parade of fun-loving visitors from around the globe. After a delicious meal beneath the stars, a romantic stroll along the Riviera and a deep seaside sleep, throw open your shutters in the morning and let your eyes feast on the spectacular Riviera views that give this Art Nouveau hotel its name.

Location: On the waterfront in the center of Santa Margherita, just south of Genoa and very near Portofino and Rapallo. Click here to see a map.

Public transportation: Excellent! Trains come and go all day between Genoa, the Cinque Terre and Tuscany, and the station is only 200 yards from the hotel. In season, there are also boats that dock just a few minutes' walk away and stop at all the little villages between Santa Margherita and La Spezia.

All the rooms except standard doubles have a bathroom between the bedroom and sitting room for more privacy. Standard junior suites are on the corner of the building and have two picture windows offering views of the mountains and the sea; deluxe junior suites are the same but with balconies instead of picture windows; both types have a double sleep sofa in the living room, which is separate from the bedroom. Superior suites are on the top floor and have a 220-square-foot panoramic terrace.

Except for the superior suites on the fifth floor, there are 4 or 5 steps up to all other guest rooms so if this is a problem, please reserve a superior suite. Also, many of the junior suites and suites have a few steps inside the room. We regret there are no wheelcahir-accessible rooms in this hotel.
