Riviera Vistas Hotel

Built in 1961 by the same family whose third generation runs it today, this hotel is set high on a hill overlooking the enchanting double bays of Sestri Levante. Although it is an easy five-minute walk into town (thanks to the hotel’s elevator that takes you up and down that formidable hill!), it enjoys some of the most breathtaking coastal views to be found anywhere in Italy, from its cocktail lounge, restaurant and swimming pool, as well as from many of the guest rooms. Don’t be disappointed if you can’t get a view from your room – there are so many lovely public areas in this hotel that you will want to take advantage of them from sun-up to sundown, both of which you can enjoy from on high!

Location: In Sestri Levante, a seaside village which is about 25 minutes from the Cinque Terre and only slightly farther from Portofino. There is good train service all along this coast and the station is a 5-minute walk from the hotel. In warmer months, you can also visit all coastal locations by boat. In Sestri there are many restaurants, shops, and a wide sandy beach. Click here to see a map.

Rooms: 46, including 18 with sea view. The rooms at this hotel are not huge, but they are beautifully appointed and furnished. Most of them are lined with wood in rich tones to emulate the first-class ocean liners that the hotel’s founding father so adored; they also have big picture windows. Standard rooms have views of the hills. Garden rooms have their own furnished patios. Sea view rooms have big glass doors to a private balcony. The Family Suite has a queen bedroom and en suite bathroom with stall shower; the bedroom connects to another bedroom with a single bed and walk-in closet. Junior Suites have a double room connecting to a single room, each of which has a bathroom and a balcony with sea view.

Features: Air conditioning, color satellite TV, direct-dial telephone, mini-bar, full-size mirror, safe. Most bathrooms have a stall shower; others have a whirlpool bathtub; all have hair dryer.

Facilities: Elevator to the rooms and down to the village; cocktail lounge and restaurant with views from Portofino to La Spezia; heated swimming pool with areas for adults, for teens and for young children; separate furnished playground for young children (there is also afternoon entertainment for kids from June to September); excellent fitness room; Full buffet breakfast; free parking.
