This small family-run hotel epitomizes a new era in Florentine hospitality. Long overdue legislation has finally made it possible for private individuals like Florio, your affable host, to convert large apartments into cozy B&Bs. The result is that those of us who like to feel as if we're staying in a home don't have to settle for rundown or dirty accommodations. These days, for very reasonable rates we can have a nice big room with a firm bed and a clean modern bathroom, and when we want help choosing a great place for dinner, we can be sure that our host will send us where he eats, not just where he gets a kickback.

Location: In Via Manzoni, about 20 minutes' walk from the Cathedral and the River. Great for those who want to keep a car, because it's right off the circonvallazione, the main thoroughfare that leads into the city before it becomes a pedestrian island. Click here to see a map.   Rooms: 7, including doubles, triples and quads. The double rooms for single use have a 3/4 -size bed (larger than a single bed). Triple rooms can have three single beds or a double bed and a single bed. Five of the rooms face the street, which is off limits to cars; 2 overlook the central courtyard. All have tile or parquet floors.   Features: Every room has air conditioning, television, desk, and mini-fridge, as well as an electric kettle with all you need for breakfast, and a private tiled bathroom with hair dryer (on request).   Facilities: Complimentary Internet point; cell phone rental on request (10 Euros for the rental, plus usage and a 100 Euro security deposit). Garage parking available nearby (18 Euro every 24 hours). No elevator; 52 steps up. It is not possible to check-in at the hotel the first time after 7pm.
