Hotel Grande Albergo
Classic Fine Hotel - Seaside Lodgings
Character: Perfect example of the grand old style of Italian resort hotel.
Advantages: Right on the beach in a lively town with loads of shops and restaurants.
Location: In Sestri Levante, a seaside village that is more than a resort because it has a year-round population. The Cinque Terre towns are a 20-minute train ride away, as are Portovenere and Lerici. Santa Margherita, Rapallo and Portofino are only slightly farther. There is good train service all along this coast and the station is an easy 10-minute walk from the hotel. In warmer months, you can also visit all coastal locations by boat. In Sestri there are many restaurants and shops, and the wide sandy beach is across the street from the hotel. Click here to see a map.
Italy's gorgeous Riviera is a narrow stretch of land brimming with colorful flowers, pastel-hued palazzos, lively seaside promenades and chic outdoor cafes. Although this is Vacationland to the nth degree, it's not easy to find a good hotel with a swimming pool and its own beach. That's why we were thrilled to find this stately grande dame right in the middle of the region, halfway between Tuscany and Genoa. Its large sunny rooms and delightful views only add to the charm of a true 19th-century resort hotel. |
