Character: Lovingly restored family home with eight rooms opening onto or overlooking a private garden. Advantages: Right in the heart of Pienza so you can walk to dinner or the cafe. Location: In Pienza, 26 km from the Autostrada A1 exit. Montepulciano, Montalcino, scores of memorable hill towns, and the fantastic Outlet Village are all within an hour's drive. Although you do need a car to tour this area, if members of your party are arriving separately, you can pick them up at the Chiusi station 38 km away. Click here for a map. The exquisite Renaissance town of Pienza is now on every sophisticated traveler's Tuscan Must See list. But historical and architectural restrictions have made it almost impossible to meet the demand for enough places to stay, which is a true shame because Pienza's location makes it the perfect base for day trips to all the important sites and off-the-beaten-track treasures of southern Tuscany. This brand new B&B, which occupies a stately villa that used to be a private residence, is only 100 yards from the historic center. Its elegant and outgoing owner Gloria is a stickler for detail and it shows: her furnishings are stylish as well as comfy, her amenities are just what we need to keep up with the 21st century, and her hospitality is as warm and generous as we could hope for. With only eight rooms, Gloria's B&B is bound to fill up quickly, so we suggest you book well in advance to enjoy Pienza at its best!

Rooms: Only 8, including 7 doubles and 1 triple, all facing away from the street. All either open onto the garden or have a balcony overlooking it. There are three rooms with twin beds; all the others have one king-size bed. Each room has a table and chairs, full-length mirror, good-sized wardrobe, and luggage rack. Non-smoking rooms are available.         Features: Air conditioning, double-glazed windows, color satellite TV, direct-dial telephone with high-speed DSL connection (please bring your own DSL cord!), wall safe, and mini-bar. Each room has a private bathroom with stall shower, good lighting, hair dryer and courtesy set.         Facilities: Elevator; garden; buffet breakfast; coffee and cocktail bar; free outdoor parking behind the B&B.
