Dear Kirill,
Thanks for the email - Ancient Walls was very beautiful and was a great place to stay.
Hotel Villa Romana had great evening meals. Climbing the stairs from Minori to Ravello is a breathtaking, in all senses of the word, experience and I would recommend it for those without any heart problems! Bar Gambardello across from Hotel Villa Romana is a little gem with wonderful pastries and they serve a good crisp white wine in the evening with little pieces of pizza on the side - also good coffee.
Thanks for your interest,
Jenny
Dear Jessica,
Given that we made all of our hotel reservations over the Internet, I was a little scared that we would end up in Italy and it would have all ended up to be a scam and we would have no rooms. Thank goodness In Italy Online is for real. Our favorite hotel was the Ancient Walls of Sorrento. What an absolutely beautiful hotel! The manicured grounds were full of different types of orange trees and lemon trees in full fruit. The room was large, the bed very comfortable and the bath and shower were perfect. (This is in contrast to many European hotels with their tiny rooms and miniscule showers.) We were able to travel by train or bus everywhere we wanted to go (Cuma, Paestum, Pompeii, Herculaneum) so not having a rental car was no problem. HOWEVER…..the trains stopped running at noon on January 1 st. We found this out purely by accident and thank goodness we did find out because we had to get back to Naples for our flight home. So, we had to cancel our Jan 1 plans so that we could catch the last train to Naples. And, once we arrived in Naples, everything was closed. No restaurants, no nothing! We had to walk to the airport to find food! Similarly, in Sorrento the restaurants closed around 5:00 on New Years Eve. Of course we didn’t know that, so we ended up having leftover granola bars for dinner on New Year’s Eve.
On our last day in Italy, we stayed at Naples Airport Hotel. It is not in the nicest part of town, but it was an easy 10 minute walk to the airport.
Overall, we did not like Naples at all (too crowded, dirty, and chaotic), but we absolutely loved Sorrento. If we are ever to go back, we will most definitely get a room at the Ancient Walls hotel. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and the room was amazing. Sorrento and the Ancient Walls would be a perfect place for a honeymoon! It was a very romantic setting.
Thanks to In Italy Online for selecting such great hotels. I am sure I would never have found these hotels on my own!
