| Welcome to In Italy Online! No one knows Italy like we do! We were the Internet's first site about Italy, and with over 4000 pages of information about where to go and what to see, we're also the biggest. Our Italy experts will help you plot the best itinerary, find the lodgings best suited to you, and make sure you get the room you want. Unlike big automated websites, we are human beings and we know the hosts at every single property on our site. We have been friends with most of them for years, and this means that In Italy Online's guests are always VIPs. We will always do our best to get the exact room you want. You will never be downgraded to the worst room in the house (which is pretty standard when you book through those impersonal sites). You will never be sent to a "similar" hotel on the other side of town. And we provide local reps in case you need back-up assistance. When browsing our site, remember that we human beings are here to assist you! Several hundred pages of comments from happy In Italy Online guests attest to this: click here to read just a few of them. And if you're new to our site, please take a few moments to learn how to book with us and why to book with us. |

If
you’re planning to drive through Italy, chances are you will drive through this part of the country,
which lies between Tuscany and the Veneto. Bologna is the capital, home to one of Europe’s oldest universities,
as well as a picturesque main square and several dramatic ancient towers. To the southeast is Le Marche (the
Marches), a panoramic region that might be called “Tuscany Without The Tourists” and offers gorgeous
views as you wend your way through the Appennine Mountains, with their snow-capped peaks and broad multi-colored
valleys, to the venerable old town of Urbino, one of the purest Renaissance gems in all Italy. Driving north,
you descend from the heights and find yourself in the Po Valley, a very broad and very flat plain that can
actually be a soothing relief after navigating all those Tuscan and Umbrian hills! The mainstay here are huge
dairy farms and pig farms, which produce what Emilia Romagna is probably best known for: Parmesan cheese and
prosciutto ham! Even if you are only here on your way from south to north, we recommend you get off the highway
and meander from one quaint little town to another, and maybe you’ll find time to spend a day in Ravenna,
a UNESCO World Heritage Site and probably the greatest treasure trove of Byzantine mosaics on the planet.
