Throughout
the centuries Naples, the capital of this fascinating region, has fallen under the dominion of practically
every great regime and dynasty in Western history. Occupying a breathtaking spot between the magnificent Bay
of Naples and the snoozing Mt. Vesuvius, this city has captured the hearts of millions over the years. But
you have to look at Bella Napoli with a special set of eyes: she may seem dirty, noisy, chaotic, even threatening.
She makes no attempt to gussy herself up for foreign visitors, yet her residents are as warm and welcoming
as any Italians you’ll encounter. Put your valuables in a safe place and venture out into the busy streets:
you will never be in danger, but you will instantly be swallowed up by the vibrant life of this city. Colorful
street markets, ornate churches, mysterious statues, delectable perfumes of unseen meals being prepared, the
echoes of friends calling to each other across the narrow laundry-adorned alleys, tiny shops filled with one-man’s-trash-another-man’s-treasure,

the steep, lemon-and-vineyard-terraced hills cascading down to the sea, the pretty little white houses that
were built by dynamiting room-by-room into those slopes, or the astounding 50-km road that somehow loops along
the entire length of it. One thing is sure: no one has ever left the Amalfi Coast without being exhilarated
beyond expectations!
